RHEL has released MySQL security updates for RHEL 4/5. This latest update fixes a flaw discovered that could have allowed an attacker to crash the MySQL server. We always recommend keeping packages like MySQL up-to-date to avoid potential security issues.
Remember that Red Hat backports fixes for MySQL. You don't need to be running MySQL 5 to take advantage of the latest fixes, you just need to make sure your current version is up-to-date.
Kernel Update
There is also a moderate kernel update available for RHEL 4. Note the moderate rating from Red Hat indicates that it is highly unlikely that systems without this latest update could be compromised. However, we will be rolling out this update and the MySQL update to our servers under monthly management over the next week.
